Podiatry
The Royal Perth Bentley Group (RPBG) Podiatry Department provides clinical services to both inpatients and outpatients across Royal Perth and Bentley hospitals. It is a specialist unit aiming to deliver the best possible care for patients at high risk of lower limb complications, with weekly Multidisciplinary Foot Ulcer Clinics running within the department.
Our mission is to:
- reduce and prevent foot ulceration
- optimise wound healing and prevent infection
- minimise hospital admissions as well as facilitating suitable discharges and prevention of readmission
- prevent foot or lower limb amputation.
Eligibility Criteria for outpatient referrals
- Must live in East Metropolitan Health Service Catchment Area.
- Active foot ulcer (below the level of the malleoli).
- Suspected or confirmed Charcot Neuroarthropathy.
For urgent foot concerns, please contact the Rapid Access Foot Line on 0434 987 807. This phone is attended by a podiatrist in business hours for urgent concerns such as development of a new foot ulcer or acute infection of an ulcer. This phone line was established to allow timely access to outpatient podiatry review, with input from medical and surgical specialities.
How to refer
Please include the following in your referral:
- medical and medication history
- history of presenting complaint (duration, location, prior treatment)
- pedal pulses present/absent
- clinical signs of infection present/absent
- prior imaging, vascular tests, microbiology, blood work.
