Podiatry services were established at Royal Perth Hospital more than 60 years ago and focus on treating people experiencing complex foot problems, with an emphasis on wound management and amputation prevention.

People with conditions such as diabetes, peripheral arterial disease, chronic renal disease, rheumatoid arthritis and immuno-suppressive disorders are more likely to experience complex foot problems.

Problems can include ulceration, infection and neuropathic joint disease (Charcot Neuroarthropathy), all of which can lead to amputation without appropriate management.

We operate in a multidisciplinary environment and work closely with other specialties including Endocrinology and Diabetes, Infectious Diseases, Vascular Surgery, Rheumatology and Orthopaedics.

We are also an integral part of the outpatient Multidisciplinary Foot Ulcer Clinic and inpatient Multidisciplinary Foot Unit, managing patients with complex foot ulceration and amputation.
