Dietetics and Nutrition
The Royal Perth Hospital (RPH) Dietitians provide specialised clinical dietetic advice for a number of patients in the hospital, including in the areas of:
- nephrology
- intensive care
- general surgery and surgical specialities
- general medicine, geriatrics and diabetes
- medical oncology
- gastroenterology
- immunology
- inborn errors of metabolism
- stroke and neurology
- neurosurgery / trauma
- haematology
- cardiology.
The types of patients Dietitians predominantly deal with require one or more of the following:
- special diet modifications
- specialised oral nutrition supplements
- nutrition education
- enteral nutrition (tube feeding)
- total parenteral nutrition.
Although predominantly inpatient focused, the Dietetics and Nutrition Department also provides some Outpatient Services – primarily to those RPH patients with complex medical problems.
The aim of dietetic services is to promote positive health outcomes through optimal nutrition.
