How our dedicated volunteers make a difference

It’s National Volunteer Week (20-26 May) and there’s no better time to celebrate our dedicated and selfless army of angels, who make such a difference for our consumers and staff every single day.
This year’s theme is "Something for Everyone", which invites all to discover the transformative power of volunteering.
Julie Knuckey is one of our fantastic volunteers Friends of Royal Perth Hospital.
For more than 30 years, our wonderful Julie Knuckey has been volunteering for Friends of RPH, and a day hasn’t gone by where she hasn’t loved what she does!
Undertaking many roles while working with the beloved volunteer group, Julie – who was a former nurse at Royal Perth Hospital (RPH) – said all she has ever wanted to do is help people.
“Volunteering for Friends enables me to help people and that is ultimately why I do it. I enjoy working with all the people I have met, and some are long-term friends as well,” she added with a smile.
“Coming back every day isn’t a question – I do this because I love it, whether it’s bringing a newspaper to a grandad on a ward or helping someone who has come through and says ‘‘I’m lost’…it doesn’t matter – I’m happy to help.”
