Stand Up for Prescribing Safety

Clinical pharmacist Rebecca Head

Clinical pharmacist Rebecca Head played a vital role in helping to educate and assist nurses and doctors on the Cardiology ward with prescribing safely during the new Stand up for Prescribing Safety initiative.

A major part of Rebecca’s role as medication safety champion is to assist nurses with ensuring medication orders are charted safely and encourage and support Doctors to follow the medication safety guidelines.

“The best thing about working at RPH is being able to work with such a fantastic team of nurses, doctors, pharmacy staff and other allied health professionals who all work so hard to help provide the best care for our patients.”

“Medications that are prescribed safely help to reduce the risk of medication errors and improve safety for everyone – It would be great to see the initiative taken up by the rest of the hospital. Everyone should be prescribing safely and any error that can be prevented is a win for patient care.

The Stand Up for Safety program at RPBG was recently developed to encourage all areas of the health care team to think differently about what we do on a daily basis, and how we can translate words on the pages of our policy documents into daily practice.
