RPH Hikers take on the OXFAM Trailwalker

October 24, 2014

On Friday 10 October 2014, Senior Project Officer Kate Ryan, Service 4 Co-Director Dori Lombardi and Service 4 Business Analyst Leonie Harris set off on a 100-kilometre journey in the OXFAM Trailwalker.

Completing the trek through the Perth hills in just over 35-hours, Kate Ryan says that competing in the walk is very rewarding, but it is both physically and mentally challenging.

“In the beginning, adrenaline is running through your body and the adventure that lies ahead is very exciting,” says Kate.

“By the half-way point, the walk really starts to take a toll, and when your body is telling you to stop, an ordinary motion like walking becomes very challenging and the support of your team becomes very important.”

The RPH Hikers have raised more than $4,500, just a few hundred dollars shy of their fundraising goal. Help them achieve their goal and donate now (external site).

“On a personal level, achieving a massive feat of physical and mental endurance is fulfilling,” says Kate. “Being united in a community of walkers, support crew and volunteers is a very special experience, that I encourage everyone to take part in.”
