Plastic Surgery

The RPH Plastic Surgery unit provides a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week service for inpatients and outpatients of Royal Perth Hospital.

Services include skin cancer surgery, hand and wrist surgery, facial fractures, breast surgery and head and neck surgery, often treating patients from the Emergency Department.

Plastic Surgery Trauma Clinic 

The Clinic accepts referrals from Emergency Departments and General Practitioners for patients with:

  • Closed hand and finger fractures with no neurovascular compromise
  • Simple hand, facial and limb lacerations.
  • Wrist injuries such as carpal bones and ligament injuries
  • Facial fractures

The Clinic operates Monday to Friday between 8.30am to 9.30am (excluding public holidays) and is located at O Block, Level 5 on Goderich Street.

Telehealth Service

A telehealth service is available for the review of remote and rural patients but is accessible for all patients. This uses videoconferencing, while storing and forwarding images and x-rays.

Dr Dirck Ananos Flores, Co-Head of Department, completed his medical training at the Cayetano Heredia University in Peru in 2002, graduating with degrees of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery.

He became a Specialist Plastic Surgeon in 2016 when he was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. In addition to English, Dirck also speaks Portuguese and Spanish. 

 

              
Dr Paul Quinn, Co-head of Department, graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and a Bachelor of Surgery with Honors from the University of WA. He was awarded the Australian Gordon Taylor medal in 1999 for excellence in surgical training.

He was awarded the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Specialist Fellowship in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and undertook advanced training in England in breast surgery, body contouring and hand surgery.  

 

 
Dr Brigid Corrigan completed her medical training at the University of WA in 1997, graduating with degrees of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery.

After further training at Royal Perth Hospital, Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, and Princess Margaret Hospital, she became a Specialist Plastic Surgeon in 2008 when she was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in plastic and reconstructive surgery. 

 

 
Dr Sam Cunneen is a specialist plastic surgeon who graduated from the University of Western Australia and trained in the UK, resulting in membership of the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh. His interests include all aspects of skin cancer, cosmetic and aesthetic surgery.

 

 
Dr Bernard Luczak completed his medical training at the University of Western Australia in 2006, graduating with Honours in Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. He started at Royal Perth Hospital and has worked across all the tertiary hospitals in Perth while completing his specialist training in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

 

 

Dr Alexandra O’Neill completed medical training at Flinders University, South Australia, graduating with degrees of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery.

Following her clinical years and internship in the Northern Territory, she moved to WA for specialist training in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. She was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS). 

 

 
Dr Robert Owen earned his medical degree at Cardiff University in the UK and came to Perth for specialist training. He was awarded the Fellowship of The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He specialises in melanoma surgery.

 

 
Dr Jeremy Rawlins has specialist plastic surgery fellowships from the UK (FRCS(Plast)) and Australia (FRACS(Plast)). He is an AHPRA Specialist Plastic Surgeon. He is a member of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons and the British Association of Plastic Surgeons (BAPRAS). 

 

 
Mr James Savundra earned his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Western Australia, and He was admitted to the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2001, specialising in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

He has a clinical interest in paediatric plastic surgery, facial surgery and hand surgery. He has trained in Perth, Melbourne and New York City and completed a Hand Surgery Fellowship after his plastic surgery qualification. 

 

 

Dr Nathan Stewart specialises in cosmetic surgery for the face, breasts and body and reconstructive surgery for the hands and skin cancers.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, plus postgraduate qualification in surgical anatomy from the University of Western Australia. in Sydney, he completed the Master of Surgery Program and studied alongside the Westmead Hospital research team investigating the role of white blood cells in wound healing. 

 

 
Dr Helena Van Dam graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in South Africa and trained in Plastic Reconstructive Surgery in London, obtaining her FRCS (Plast) from the Royal College of Surgeons of England. She holds a master’s degree in Surgical Science, obtained with distinction, from University College, London.

She pursued further training in trauma reconstruction and hand surgery in London, India and Perth, and has been admitted to the Royal College of Surgeons of Australia (FRACS).

 

 
Dr Wysun Wong is a Specialist Plastic Surgeon with an interest in hand and wrist problems. He completed a PhD in melanoma treatment at the QEII Medical Centre in Perth before studying medicine in Queensland. He returned to WA for surgical training and gained Fellowship to the Royal Australasian College in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in 2011.

He accepted a hand and upper limb fellowship at Middlemore Hospital in New Zealand, before returning to Perth.
