Hep B Hub WA – Hepatitis B support for GPs and clinicians

The Hep B Hub WA was launched in January 2025 and is helping primary care and community health professionals to diagnose, monitor, treat, and manage patients with chronic hepatitis B within the community setting, with the aim of empowering community clinicians and reducing the need for ongoing referral to a specialist.

Hepatitis B is a chronic disease and is best managed by the health professionals who coordinate the care of patients with multiple chronic diseases regularly – GPs and other primary and community health clinicians.

This Royal Perth Hospital (RPH) service, currently funded by the WA Department of Health ensures that GPs and nurse practitioners (NPs) can now access clinical support, education, and up-to-date advice in an accessible way.

The service is led by Adam Gregson (pictured below), an experienced RPH hepatology NP with a special interest in viral hepatitis.

He has significant experience in assessing and managing hepatitis B and conducting ongoing HCC surveillance, as well as operating and interpreting transient elastography (Fibroscan®). He provides expert advice and education through the state-wide clinical advice service (Hep B Hub WA) and will work with you to establish hepatitis B outreach clinics at your practice across WA.

Experienced hepatology NP, Adam Gregson, leads the service.

Hep B Hub WA

A state-wide clinical advice and prescription service, covering all tertiary catchments, that provides GPs and primary care NPs with online and in-person support, education, advice and prescriptions in order to manage chronic hepatitis B. This includes diagnostics, therapeutics, referrals, and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) surveillance.

The Hep B Hub WA provides a response within two business days - via email, phone/video call, or even in-person visits.

It handles a range of inquiries from basic hepatitis B questions and prescribing to complex cases, with collaboration from RPH hepatologists as required. No question is too small and no formal referral is required – just send an email with the clinical information you have, and we will get back to you.

If you require an s100 hepatitis B prescription for your patient, please complete the Hepatitis B Treatment Prescription Request form on the right of your screen. Email the form to the Hep B Hub WA email address.

This service is WA-based and provides easy and quick access to specialist expertise and assistance.

Outreach Hepatitis B Clinics

Led by RPH hepatology NP Adam Gregson, the outreach clinics support GPs and NPs in managing patients with hepatitis B within their practices, including using a mobile Fibroscan® to assess for liver fibrosis and detect risks like cirrhosis and portal hypertension. Adam sees your patients with hepatitis B with you in your clinic and provides immediate and face-to-face education, support and advice.

This helps ensure patients receive appropriate treatment and monitoring to prevent worsening conditions, but in familiar and culturally appropriate settings.

This service empowers GPs and NPs to manage hepatitis B confidently, often avoiding the need for specialist referrals. Outreach clinics offer a comprehensive clinical picture for suitable care and referrals if necessary.
