Endocrinology and Diabetes
Royal Perth Hospital provides treatment and education for individuals with diabetes and other endocrine disorders.
Patients may be referred from the community or from within our hospital.
Clinics are staffed by Consultant Physicians in endocrinology and diabetes, dietitians and diabetes nurse educators.
We can provide referrals to social work and Clinical Psychology, if needed.
Diabetes
Our outpatient service provides assistance for people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes when they require insulin or have complications from their condition.
Our aim is to help patients control their blood glucose levels and the associated risk factors. By doing this, we hope to prevent complications and limit disruption to the patient’s lifestyle.
A diabetic foot ulcer service is provided by staff from vascular surgery, podiatry, infectious diseases, wound care and pedorthics, with input from orthopaedic surgery and plastic surgery as needed.
Endocrinology
We provide inpatient and outpatient services for conditions including:
- diseases of the thyroid, pituitary and adrenal glands
- disorders of calcium metabolism
- some aspects of reproductive endocrinology
- other metabolic disorders.
Osteoporosis
The outpatient service is provided by a team that includes endocrinologists, geriatricians and dietitians.
