Each year the Royal Perth Hospital (RPH) Emergency Department (ED) sees more than 84,000 patients. Of these patients, more than 1,500 are priority one (resuscitation) cases and 500 are major trauma cases.

Our ED is Western Australia’s only accredited major trauma centre and we see 75 per cent of all trauma cases. We provide a toxicology service that admits more than 1,500 patients each year, and we are actively involved in preventative health strategies such as the Prevent Alcohol and Risk-related Trauma in Youth (PARTY) program.

The ED also participates in a number of research projects to assist in continually improving the treatments available to patients in WA, Australia and around the world.

The research is conducted in conjunction with the Centre for Clinical Research in Emergency Medicine at the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research (external site).
