Hand Hygiene

Hand Hygiene

We take hand hygiene seriously!

At Royal Perth Hospital (RPH) it’s okay to ask us to clean our hands!

We are committed to providing exceptional health care in a clean and secure environment!

Good hand hygiene is critical to strengthening the delivery of health care to those who need it most and greatly reduces the risk of healthcare-associated infections. The five moments of hand hygiene, as endorsed by the World Health Organisation are:

  1. Before touching a patient
  2. Before a procedure
  3. After a procedure or body fluid exposure risk
  4. After touching a patient
  5. After touching a patient’s surroundings

Watch our patient hand hygiene video to learn about good hand hygiene, and why it is OK for you to as us to wash our hands.

If you have any questions about hand hygiene during your stay, ask a member of your health care team for more information.

For more information about the importance of hand hygiene visit the World Health Organisation website (external site).
