Health Consumer Excellence Awards 2018 nominees

As we all know, there are so many unsung heroes in the health care industry. The Health Consumer Excellence Awards were created to honour these everyday heroes – from the consumer representative, to the administrator to the clinician.

We are delighted to announce that a number of staff and services within East Metropolitan Health Service (EMHS) have been selected as finalists in the Health Consumer Excellence Awards for 2018.

Congratulations to these finalists who truly demonstrate our focus to ensure our consumers receive amazing care across all areas of our health service.

Well done to the EMHS finalists in the following categories:

Health Organisation:

The finalists are health organisations that demonstrate an ongoing partnership with health consumers to improve health outcomes and the patient experience –

  • Armadale Hospital Chronic Disease Model of Care
  • Armadale Mental Health Service
  • Bentley Hospital Pet Therapy Program
  • East Metropolitan Health Service, Walk a Day In My Shoes
  • Day Surgery Unit, Armadale Hospital

Health Professional:

The finalists are acknowledged for demonstrating an ongoing commitment to improving health outcomes and/or the patient experience –

  • Bernadette Bragg, Complex Care Coordinator Armadale Hospital
  • Trish Connery, Clinical Nurse, Royal Perth Hospital

Health Consumer:

The finalists are health consumers who have demonstrated a commitment to improving health outcomes and/or the patient experience –

  • Beverly Barndon, Volunteer, Royal Perth Bentley Group
  • Julie Knuckey and Judy Male, Friends of Royal Perth Hospital, Concierge Service

Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander Health:

The finalists are noted for providing outstanding service to Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander health consumers –

  • Boodjari Yorgas Family Care Program
  • Christine Parry, Boodjari Yorgas Family Care Program
  • EMHS Community and Population Health – Living Improvements For Everyone (L.I.F.E) Program
  • Peter Humphries and Natasha Garlett, Aboriginal Health Liaison Officers, East Metro Health Service Community and Population Health

Compassionate Care:

The finalists have been selected on the basis of providing direct patient care with demonstrated compassion –

  • Jacqueline Pemberton, Royal Perth Hospital
  • Colleen McLevie, Kalamunda Hospital
